    He was born in Brooklyn on January 23, 1940, the son of Henry and Genevieve (Szmythkowski) Schwartz. He grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1958.

    He married the former Patricia J. Hilberer on January 6, 1981, in Burlington Flats, NY.
