She was born in Keeseville on October 11, 1943, the daughter of Matthew and Marian (Prefontaine) McDonough.
Before meeting the love of her life, she planned to enter the convent and become a nun; however, that changed when she met John. Susan married her true love, John Giroux, on May 6, 1967, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville and created a beautiful family with him. She graduated from Keeseville Central School with a passion for serving others and went on to Champlain Valley School of Nursing.
Sue was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, nana, and friend. She grew up in Keeseville, NY, in a lively household with seven siblings. She met John through his sister Dianne while attending nursing school. Love blossomed between them while they danced many nights away. After graduation, she got her first nursing position at CVPH, where she spent more than 30 years of her career caring for patients and their families with compassion and empathy. During that time, John and Sue were blessed to welcome two daughters ~ Lisa Ann, in 1969, followed closely behind by Amy Ellen in 1970. Sue was a devoted mother who supported her daughters in all their studies and activities. She entered semi-retirement to work as a hospice nurse and then went on to work in Dr. Debra Clark's office. During this time, she was present for the birth of all 7 of her grandchildren.
Sue was thoughtful, had a great sense of humor, and was an avid dancer (the jitterbug, to be exact). She loved gardening and soaking in the sun on her deck, watching bluebirds in her birdhouses. Sue also loved making scrapbooks for her grandchildren. She spent 21 summers vacationing in the Adirondacks with her children and grandchildren, one of her favorite places to be. Her retirement years were spent around family and traveling to Maine and Buffalo to watch her grandchildren grow.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 55 years, John Edward Giroux; 2 daughters, Lisa (Dave) St.Pierre of Yarmouth, ME, and Amy (Tim) Nyhart of Boston, NY; 7 Grandchildren, Sydney, Andrea, and Ethan St.Pierre, Spencer, Zachary, Katherine, and Mackensey Nyhart; her siblings, Colin McDonough of Keeseville NY, Kathleen O'Connor of Keeseville NY, Michael (Bonnie) McDonough of Morrisonville NY; 5 sisters in law: Helen (Kent) Millspaugh of Nashville TN, Charlotte Giroux of Clayton NC, Dianne Davis of Plattsburgh NY, Gloria Douglass of Plattsburgh NY, Jocelyn (Randy) Corkum of Yarmouth ME, and Theresa (Terry) Daly of Falmouth MA; and four brothers in law: George (Mary Ellen) Giroux of Glenville NY, Paul (Jean) Giroux of Millbrook NY, William (Diane) Giroux of Peru NY, and Gary (Paula) Giroux of Cortland NY; as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins on both the McDonough and Giroux side whom she adored.
