ID:	6159 Raymond J. “Joe” Varin Sr., 85, of Chazy Lake, NY, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at CVPH with his wife of 66 years close by. He was born in Chazy Lake on April 24, 1937, the son of Raymond and Catherine (Dubrey) Varin.

Joe was raised on the family farm in Chazy Lake, where he spent much of his time working with his father. Joe met his wife, Carolyn (Benware), as teenagers, and they were married on June 9, 1956, in St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon, Mt., NY. They had two sons, Raymond “Joey” and Kenny. He worked on the farm and drove a plow truck for the Town of Dannemora. He started as a night watchman at Clinton Correctional Facility, moving up as a painter, Maintenance Supervisor, and retired as Plant Superintendent with 37 years of service. After retirement, he continued to work on the farm with his sons, spent time at his hunting camp, “ The Big Horn Hunting Club,” with his close friends, and loved to golf every week when he was able. He was a real outdoorsman and was always on the move in his blue Dickies. Joe was a man of routine, faith, blunt honesty, and a great storyteller.

His parents predeceased him, his sisters, Barbara, Genevieve, and his daughter-in-law, Debbie.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his sons, Joey and Kenny (Margaret) Varin; four grandchildren: Stephanie Varin, Kenny Varin, Alyssa (Mark) King, and Brittany Varin, four great-grandchildren: Mason, Brooklyn, Emma, and one more on the way, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Christian burial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
